All students are required to bring a laptop in order to take part in the student workshop proceedings.
A Virtual Machine (VM) image containing all the software required will be provided and needs to be installed prior to attending the workshop. This requires the installation of some prerequisite packages, and depends on your laptop's operating system.
If you are using a Mac, you will need to ensure that 'XQuartz', 'Terminal' and an ssh client are installed.
If you are using a Linux distro, you will need to ensure that a terminal emulator and an ssh client are installed (they are generally installed by default).
If you are using a Windows machine, you will need to ensure that 'Xming' and 'Putty' are installed.
Last of all, please go to the VirtualBox Download Page and download VirtualBox for your laptop's operating system, then follow the installation prompts.
The VM image is here. Instructions for using the VM are available here. The md5sum of the image is 123ae982b61d2ae7ba7c95d3ff01b5e4If you have problems downloading the VM we will be providing it on USB at the workshop.
